Welcome to the Student Council Support website. The aim of the service is to provide ongoing support for all Student Council Liaison Teachers. Student Council Support is jointly managed and funded by the Department of Education and Skills and the Office of the Minister for Children and Youth Affairs.
The Student Council Support Team is made up of a Student Council Coordinator assisted by a team of committed and experienced part-time Local Facilitators who share their experiences of working with their own Student Councils. Support can be provided in a variety of ways:

- to talk about the introduction or ongoing development of the Student Council with the Student Council
Liaison Teacher, Principal, School Planner...
- presentation to Staff members around the role and function of the Student Council,
- presentation to students about the role and function of the Student Council in advance of elections etc.
- presentation to Boards of Management around the role and function of the Student Council
- training day for newly elected Student Council members
- or a specific support need you might have not mentioned above
STUDENT COUNCIL TRAINING EVENTS FEBRUARY / MARCH 2011
During the coming term, a series of evening workshops have been organised to offer training for a maximum of 10 students from the Student Council, accompanied by their Liaison Teachers from 5pm to 8pm in your local Education Centre. (See attachment below for a schedule of all events.) Each venue will accommodate up to 5 Student Councils. Refreshments will be served from 4.30pm. Student Council members will receive training in the following areas: 1. Role and functions of the Student Council 2. Clarification of roles within the Student Council 3. Clarification of the role of the Student Council Liaison Teacher 4. Gaining and maintaining a profile for the Student Council in your school 5. Effective meetings 6. Student Council activities 7. Identifying, prioritising, planning and proposing Student Council activities 8. The Student Council Constitution 9. Establishing links with all members of the school community 10. Issues and challenges for Student Councils Participation in this in-service will be strictly on a first come first served basis as places are limited to 5 schools per venue. Students MUST be accompanied for the duration of the training session by their Liaison Teacher.
